Since being in Vietnam we haven’t come across a lot of food courts but as we traversed the river of Da Nang at sunset we saw one and decided just to have a quick look before we went to a much more acceptable street side dinner.
The food simply looked to good not to order some for us.
The view also sold me – it looked straight over the river – million dollar view at rock bottom prices.
Street food out of our mind, we walked around the stalls and chose what we were going to devour.
Banh Xeo is a rice flour pancake coloured with turmeric, fried till its crispy and then filled with bean shoots, fatty pork and shrimp.
When it arrived on our table it looked and smelt delicious.
The sauce deserves its own mention – a peanut base, it was salty and sweet and contained a good amount of chilli – the perfect accompaniment to the Banh Xeo.
It was sinfully good.
We each went for slightly different varieties, Jeff a Thai Seafood Lau and myself a Fish Vietnamese Lau.
When they were sat down in front of us it was hard to believe we were in a food court – they looked amazing.
Bun noodles came along side – you simply placed some noodles in your bowl and ladled the soup on the top.
