However since being here I have completely relaxed these beliefs – if you don't eat rice (nasi) or noodles (mee) you will go hungry.
I now eat rice or noodles with every meal including breakfast – if I don't have them I miss them.
Fried noodles here are an absolute staple especially at food stands.
Jeff and I had a craving for some good noodles so went to the night markets in KK to curb our cravings.
We have had some amazing noodles here and also some pretty dodgy ones. The key, we believe, is an insanely hot wok that adds some “chari-ness” to the dish. No char, no flavour.
As we walked around the market we were sussing out who’s wok looked the hottest to deliver us our noodle cravings.
We settled on a hawker stand that smelt and looked like it was the business.
We both ordered fried mee – Jeff’s with chicken and mine with seafood.
The table next to us had a similar meal but they ingeniously had added a fried egg to the top so I also requested the same.
The noodles here are often cooked with pork lard not only giving them an incredible taste but coating them in a silky sauce that helps you slurp up the whole plate.
Not a great dish for the hips, but definitely satisfied the moment on the lips.
Total price for both dishes – 8 Ringgit ($2.50)
